MSc, LaRoche Lab In the LaRoche Lab, my MSc. research aims to uncover the compositionality of marine ecosystems around Nova Scotia through environmental molecular signatures. I have strong interest in the conservation of marine biodiversity and the development of efficient methods for biomonitoring. |
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, & Outreach Representatives Leticia Magpali (she/they)
MSc, Bielawski lab I study the evolution of cetacean (whales, dolphins and porpoises) vocal behaviour in different environments by integrating genomic and acoustic data. Kate Ortenzi (she/her, they/their)
PhD, Bailey lab I work in Nunatsiavut (at the tippy top of Labrador) on mapping benthic species and then connecting those habitats to Nunatsiavut community members through stories, values, and keystone species. I'm doing this work in collaboration with community members and by using methodology that supports a holistic view of the ecosystem that better aligns with Inuit ways of knowing, and acknowledges non-hierarchical relationships between people, plants, and animals. |

MSc, Lotze lab I am a master’s candidate in Heike Lotze’s lab of marine ecology going into my 5th semester as a graduate student. I am passionate about the study of species and their habitat use, especially sharks! My master’s thesis focuses on using remote sensing (satellite imagery) to map mangrove and seagrass coverage over the past 2 decades in Bimini, the Bahamas, to understand the impact of habitat loss on survival rates of juvenile lemon sharks from age-1 to age-0. In my spare time I like to hike, camp, surf, scuba dive or play board games! I look forward to working alongside Becca in BOGS to advocate for TAs in our department! |
Rebecca Stevens-Green (she/they)
PhD, LaRoche lab I’m interested in the tiny things! I study marine microbial communities in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean using genomics and transcriptomics. |
